On bright and sunny days with little better to do (which stone me, happens maybe too often) I will do a circular to and from the Hartshead Pike. The Hartshead Inn, unless it happens to be the Junction that day, tends to be the capstone to my little sojourn. And why wouldn't it be?! Great drinks (ales included), superb food, dazzling views of Manchester and the surrounding farmland, especially in the summer. Blessed with an enormous beer garden which children (and smokers!) will appreciate where it is acceptable to eat. Additionally, very well priced. Would rate higher still but unfortunately they tend to be very understaffed, particularly with the young and inexperienced, which tends to result in uncomfortably long waiting times. In context, however, this is little more than a nitpick. A must-dine!

Kind of secluded place but still quite busy for a wintery Sunday afternoon. Cosy open fire and warm welcoming atmosphere. Good selection ales and wines to go with decent selection of quality food. Must be a great place in the summer for a break from walking and taking in the views.

Really enjoyed our last visit, but when we turned up on Saturday 6.30 we were told they were fully booked even though the place looked half empty. I know people pre book but we would have been prepared to eat up near the lounge area. I believe that if they really had tried to squeeze us in they could. Seriously it didn't look that busy .

Nice place. Polite staff. Wasn't much on the lunchtime menu and staff never asked if we wanted another drink.

Our experience at the Hartshead Inn wasnt as wed hope. The initial greeting we received was a very cold greeting where we got the impression they didnt want us there. Our food took extremely long to arrive. The main course was cold and so had to be recooked, and our dessert was forgetten, which meant we were in the restaurant for 2 and half hours. Wed have to go up to the bar and ask for our food to come out. Apart from the extremely poor and lacklustre service, the food itself was nice. The sharer platter we had for starter was great, and the pork for main was delicious. When our desserts finally came out they were nice. The views and the restaurant itself and fantastic. Just the service ruined our experience.
